چکیده

Methods Patients who underwent CMR at ICPS who were diagnosed with myocarditis on the basis of cardiac imaging and clinical findings (patients, n = 187) between November 2009 and September 2010 were identified through the use of the cardiology database. All patients underwent a similar protocol to look for: 1. LV and RV function 2. The presence of pleural effusion 2. Tissue edema, as seen by an elevated T2 signal 3. Myocardial necrosis or scarring, as indicated by the presence of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE)

Diagnosis of Acute Global Myocarditis Using Cardiac MRI with Quantitative T1 and T2 Mapping: Case Report and Literature Review

The diagnosis of myocarditis can be challenging given that symptoms, clinical exam findings, electrocardiogram results, biomarkers, and echocardiogram results are often non-specific. Endocardial biopsy is an established method for diagnosing myocarditis, but carries the risk of complications and false negative results. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become the primary non-invasive...

Patient with Churg Strauss Syndrome and Myocarditis Treated with Cyclophosphamide

Cardiac involvement in Churg Strauss Syndrome is common and a poor prognostic indicator. Myocarditis in Churg Strauss Syndrome can present in different ways. It has been shown that basic cardiac investigations including echocardiography can be normal even in symptomatic patients. More recently cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been shown to be more sensitive in its diagnosis. Our cas...

Myocarditis masquerading as acute coronary syndrome: diagnostic role of cardiac MRI

Background Myocarditis presenting as isolated acute chest pain with elevated troponins but normal systolic function by echocardiogram is rare in previously healthy children. Diagnosis is challenging in this situation with significant drawbacks even for the gold standard endomyocardial biopsy. Our study aim is to evaluate the diagnostic role of cardiac MRI in comparison with echocardiography in ...

Myocarditis and colchicine: a new perspective from cardiac MRI

Background Because of anatomic proximity, myocarditis is often associated with pericarditis. Although randomized trials have not delineated a successful evidence-based therapy for myocarditis, there is evidence of considerable benefit in treating pericarditis with a regimen of colchicine and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Cardiac MRI (CMR) is capable of detecting both myocardit...

Troponin compared with late enhancement in the assessment of myocardial injury

Cardiac troponins are regarded as the reference standard for detection of myocardial cell necrosis. Contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) represents a modern technology that allows comprehensive evaluation of the heart after myocardial infarction. It enables assessment of global and regional myocardial function, confirmation and quantification of myocardial infarction, i...
